The Michigan City Soul Steppers Drill Team Inc. is a faith based, performing arts, community organization out of Michigan City, Indiana that was started in December 2000, by Founder/CEO/Director Lyn Isbell. The Soul Steppers consist of 35 youth ages 12-21 yrs. that avoid gangs, trouble, & jail, by staying focused off the streets, after & out of school. Being active all year around in a positive structure, team members participate in weekly activities such as community services, homework & mentoring sessions, practices 3-5 days per week, as well as performances. They are promoting a healthy lifestyle that includes strict discipline, exercise & being committed to "stepping out on faith". This multi-award winning team is highly sought after & travels throughout the country wowing crowds, while gaining nationwide recognition for outstanding work & touching lives with lasting memories. A trophy case was dedicated in honor of the Soul Steppers for their strong representation of Michigan City, & sits in City Hall displaying the numerous awards received. Performances include high energy, synchronized, & tight precision routines, accompanied with a powerful drumline that's known for it's unique sound. Participating in at least 25 various parades over the years, other events include but are not limited to: Church / School/ Political/ Patriotic / Parades/ Competitions/ Exhibitions/ Sports/ Festivals/ Holidays/Youth / Family / Expos/ Business/Conventions/ Weddings/ Receptions/ Fashion Shows/ Anniversaries/ Birthdays/ Concerts/Fairs/Funerals/Tributes/Grand Openings/Benefits/Orchestras/ Unusual requests, you name it!! No event too big or small ! States traveled include: Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas, Nebraska, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington,DC, Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, & Oklahoma. Winning numerous awards throughout the years, some acknowledged performances include: Dallas, Texas- Mavericks NBA/American Dance Drill Team Competition; Division 1 Superior Team Award! ATS Tours & Travel Outstanding Performance Award! 2nd Place Overall Award! Memphis, TN - Mighty Marchers Competition- 1st Place Drill Team & 1st Place Drum Line! 2 years!
